Expanding IT Leadership at $60 Billion Telecom Company
Posted by SL&A on Aug 20th, 2010

The CIO of a major U.S. telecommunications company was driving a major strategic and operational transformation for the company and needed to expand the leadership capabilities and capacity of his organization to support that transformation.

Problem:

This transformation represented a new role for the IT leadership team, which had historically been seen within the company as an enabler rather than a driver of activities.  Furthermore, the leadership and communications skills of his team – and their relationship with their business unit clients – were recognized as being deficient and dysfunctional.  In addition, the CIO wanted to be recognized by the executive team as a more effective leader and as a driver of the company’s transformation.

Recommended Solution:

Stuart Levine & Associates developed an integrated Leadership Development and Execution Program.  This program included:

  • CIO Consultation;
  • Stakeholder Reconnaissance Roadmap – identified stakeholder specific communications requirements and expectations;
  • Stakeholder Communications Program – addressed key communication messages to different stakeholders;
  • Leadership Coaching for Senior Management;
  • Better Alignment between IT and Business Unit partners;

We also supported the IT, Public Affairs and Communications organizations in addressing critical strategic issues such as Offshoring.
